Ar fáil anois!
This work gives an account of Irish-language terminology during the Revival until 1927 when the Department of Education of the Irish Free State established the terminology committee. The role and status of Irish as a national language and its influence on the views of the Irish-language community regarding the language and terminology itself are also looked at. A wide range of the original articles and sources are included in the work – which greatly contributes to the modern understanding of the Revival.
Sliocht as caibidil 2:
'"Milis an teanga an Ghaedhealg,/Guth gan chabhair choigcríche (Mac Giolla Eáin 1900: 17)" Is línte filíochta iad seo a leagtar ar Sheathrún Céitinn de ghnáth agus an file clúiteach ag moladh acmhainn na Gaeilge, cé go ndeir Cunningham (2000: 128) nach móide gur chum an Céitinneach na véarsaí seo. Ar ndóigh, tuigtear nach fíor an méid sin i gcás na Gaeilge ná i gcás teanga ar bith eile go dearfa, mar a mhaíonn Jespersen: ‘No language is ever entirely free from borrowed words, because no nation has ever been completely isolated’ (1922: 208); agus Thomason: ‘Language contact is everywhere: there is no evidence that any languages have developed in total isolation from other languages’ (2001: 8). Ag brath ar chúrsaí polaitiúla agus sóisialta agus ar theagmháil le cultúir agus le teangacha eile bhí téarmaí nua ag teacht isteach sa Ghaeilge ar dhóigheanna éagsúla.'
