Seoladh teidil an Earraigh ó COIS LIFE in The
Library Project, 4 Barra an Teampaill, ag 6.30pm, Dé hAoine, 4 Aibreán, 2014.
Ag filleadh ar "ár gcló ceart"
(mar a déarfadh an Ríordánach) a bhíomar mar bunaíodh COIS LIFE trasna na habhann ón
láthair seo i lár na 1990í agus sin an chúis a dtagraíonn teideal an chomhlachta
don Life (agus féach na leabhair ar snámh inti inár lógó!). Ba é Cathal Póirtéir an Fear a’ Tí don tráthnóna agus bhain gach
duine taitneamh as an bhfíon agus as an gceol, agus as na píosaí beaga
cainte a rinneadh faoi na ceithre leabhar seo ar leith:
Scéal Scéil: rúndiamhra na meán curtha in
eagar ag Breandán Delap
Sciorrann an tAm le hOrna Ní Choileáin
Daideo le hÁine Ní Ghlinn
An Colm Bán le Liam Ó Muirthile
Rónán Ó Domhnaill ag caint le Cathal Mac Coille |
Ar dtús rinne
an Coimisinéir Teanga nua, Rónán Ó Domhnaill, píosa cainte faoi
thábhacht na hiriseoireachta agus sheol sé saothar nua Bhreandáin Delap Scéal Scéil. Ábhar ó
scoth na n-iriseoirí Gaeilge agus cleachtóirí sna meáin a bhí tarraingte le
chéile ag Breandán Delap, a dúirt sé: Deaglán de Bréadún; Paul Drury; Cilian
Fennell; Cathal Mac Coille; Rónan Mac Con Imaire; Harry McGee; Antain Mac
Lochlainn; Póilín Ní Chiaráin; Máirín Ní Ghadhra; Gormfhlith Ní Thuairisg;
Pádhraic Ó Ciardha; Seán Ó Cuirreáin; Seán Tadhg Ó Gairbhí; Máirtín Ó
Muilleori; agus Pól Ó Muirí.
Ina dhiaidh sin chuir na húdair eile síos
ar a gcuid leabhar ar leith. Léigh Orna Ní Choileáin sliocht as ceann de na gearrscéalta
óna cnuasach nua, Sciorrann an tAm - an chéad chnuasach ó foilsíodh Canary Wharf in 2009 - leabhar
a bhuaigh roinnt duaiseanna liteartha, gan trácht ar lucht leanúna a ghnóthú
láithreach bonn don scríbhneoir óg seo lena sainstíl féin.

Ag blaiseadh na litríochta! |
Cé go bhfuil cáil ar Orna as gcuid leabhar do
pháistí, féach go bhfuair a híníon is óige an-bhlas ar na scéalta in Sciorrann an tAm chomh
maith!
Nuair a chuir Áine Ní Ghlinn síos ar conas a
spreagadh í le Daideo a scríobh, thug sí
léargas drámatúil beo dá raibh i láthair ar cad is ionspioráid ann - fiosracht an duine daonna sna
féidearthachtaí a leanann an cheist "cad a tharlódh dá ....". Spreag
sí fiosracht an tslua, pé scéal é agus chuaigh neart daoine trasna chuig an 'siopa' le cóip den
leabhar a cheannach dóibh féin. Ná bac 'litríocht leanaí' - mar a
dúirt Cathal Póirtéir, tá an scéal scríofa chomh maith sin go mbainfeadh aon
duine ardtaitneamh as.
Áine Ní Ghlinn, údar Daideo - tour de force! |
Labhair Liam Ó Muirthile faoin bpríomhcharachtar in
An Colm Bán: Nora Buckley, searbhónta as Iarthar Chorcaí, a théann ag rince ar
stáitse na bhFolies Bergère i bPáras san blianta tar éis an Chéad Chogaidh Mhóir.. Scéal Nora agus scéal údair ar thóir scéal Nóra i bPáras na haimsire seo is bun leis an leabhar. Mheasamar go raibh cuairt tugtha ag na Folies Bergère céanna ar an ócáid fad a bhí Liam ag caint ach b'amhlaidh go raibh cóisir 'oíche na gcearc' tar éis teacht isteach le teann fiosrachta, nuair a chonaic siad na leabhair ar taispeáint ar na seilfeanna ar na fallaí arda. Ach sin is brí le bheith i 'lár an aonaigh' is dócha!

Tá na leabhair ar fad ar díol i siopaí leabhar agus
ó www.coislife.ie áit a bhfuil siad ar fáil i bhoirm páipéir agus i modh
ríomhleabhar.
We here in COIS LIFE sent our 'Spring Collection'
of books down the runway in The Library Project, 4 Temple Bar on Friday the 4th
of April 2014. In some ways it was a going back to our roots as the company was
founded close to the cultural quarter and of course our name and logo refer to
the Liffey (and books floating in it! - take another look at it!).
Ceol den scoth mar anlann leis an litríocht |
The
inimitable Cathal Póirtéir was Master of Ceremonies and blended chat,
music, readings, wine, reminiscences - and one passing, but curious hen party!
- to make 'The Library Project' into a genuine literary salon where the works
under consideration ranged from meta-journalism, through short stories and
fiction to children's literature:
Scéal Scéil: rúndiamhra na meán edited by
Breandán Delap
Sciorrann an tAm (short stories) by Orna
Ní Choileáin
Daideo (children's literature) by hÁine
Ní Ghlinn
An Colm Bán (fiction) by Liam Ó Muirthile
The evening proper began with the new Language
Commissioner, Rónán Ó Domhnaill, discussed the importance of journalism to
society by way of launching Scéal Scéil. Breandán Delap had persuaded
some of Ireland's finest journalists and media practitioners to contribute to the
book, he pointed out: Deaglán de Bréadún; Paul Drury; Cilian Fennell; Cathal Mac Coille; Rónan
Mac Con Imaire; Harry McGee; Antain Mac Lochlainn; Póilín Ní Chiaráin; Máirín
Ní Ghadhra; Gormfhlith Ní Thuairisg; Pádhraic Ó Ciardha; Seán Ó Cuirreáin; Seán
Tadhg Ó Gairbhí; Máirtín Ó Muilleori; and Pól Ó Muirí.

After that, the other authors spoke about their
books, beginning with Orna Ní Choileáin who read an extract from one of the new
short stories in her latest collection Sciorrann an tAm - her first since Canary Wharf was
published in 2009 - a book which won several literary awards for Ní Choileáín -
to say nothing of a cult following for this young writer with her highly
individual style.
When Áine Ní Ghlinn described how she came to write
her novella for children Daideo, she illustrated perfectly what inspiration
itself is - nothing other than human
curiosity about the threads of possibilites which spool out of the question
"what would happen if ....". Quite a few people were curious enough
to head straight to the bookshop to buy a copy of the the book after Ní Ghlinn
spoke. As Cathal Póirtéir remarked, anyone - child or adult - who enjoys
good writing will want to read this book.
Ashling Harteveld in charge of the bookshop on the night |
Following Áine Ní Ghlinn came another tour de
force performance, this time from Liam Ó Muirthile who spoke about the main
character of his novel An Colm Bán, Nora Buckley, a servant from West Cork, who
becomes a dancer on the stage of the Folies Bergère in Paris in the years after
the First World War, and alongside it, an author searching for her story in
present day Paris.
All the books are available in good bookshops and
from www.coislife.ie where they are available in paper and ebook formats.
